To install solar panels on a shed, the roof must be capable of taking an additional weight of at least 14 or 15 kg per square metre. If you look at your current shed and run it through the shed health test, you will almost certainly find that it is not quite up to Australian Standards to hold its own weight! Solar panels add weight and pressure on your shed, as well as adding an additional drag and strain on the roof. You will require at least a shed that can take an ADDITIONAL 20kg per square metre weight on the roof and that is what you get with Professional Choice Sheds – Solar ready.
Your shed may require heavier purlins and thicker roof battens to support these solar panels. It is unlikely with Professional Choice Sheds as the strength is already there just to ensure that they are up to Australian Standards. In some cases, there may be extra purlins or battens added to ensure the correct spacings to take your panels.
