Australia and the world are undergoing a renewable energy revolution. Consider Solar Panels on your shed – engineering Now Available at Professional Choice Sheds. 96.5% of Tasmania’s power usage was coming from renewable energy by the end of 2019.
South Australia has over half of its power coming from renewable energy sources. Solar panels on the roofs of commercial and residential buildings across Australia is now one of the primary sources of the renewable energy revolution.
It will just be a few years and most of us will be driving electric vehicles. This will include agricultural vehicles and trucks so what could be better than generating your own free power to run them?
Sensible customers have been coming to Professional Choice Sheds to ensure that they have a quality-built shed capable of retro fitting solar panels on the roof – solar ready is almost standard on their sheds.
To install solar panels on a shed, the roof must be capable of taking an additional weight of at least 14 or 15 kg per square metre. If you look at your current shed and run it through the shed health test, you will almost certainly find that it is not quite up to Australian Standards to hold its own weight! Solar panels add weight and pressure on your shed, as well as adding an additional drag and strain on the roof. You will require at least a shed that can take an ADDITIONAL 20kg per square metre weight on the roof and that is what you get with Professional Choice Sheds – Solar ready.
Your shed may require heavier purlins and thicker roof battens to support these solar panels. It is unlikely with Professional Choice Sheds as the strength is already there just to ensure that they are up to Australian Standards. In some cases, there may be extra purlins or battens added to ensure the correct spacings to take your panels.
If you are considering installing solar panels on your building, Professional Choice Sheds will have your shed engineered to ensure that this can be done – usually at only a small extra cost to a ‘standard’ shed.
You may not be considering solar panels now, but your shed is going to last a lifetime. Making your existing shed strong enough to support solar panels on the roof can be expensive. In many cases, it will be close to impossible.
For health and safety reasons, local councils are looking more closely at structures. This is to ensure they are strong enough to take an additional solar panel weight. Sheds must comply with regulations. Councils have become more aware that many sheds currently installed on properties are barely fit to take their own weight. The issue of being solar ready then becomes more important.
Comply with your insurance company.
Insurance companies are becoming more concerned about insuring sheds. Many sheds may not be up to Australian Standards. Many have too much spacing, too light a steel and too much sag. It is little wonder they are increasingly concerned about insuring these same sheds with a solar installation on their roof.
Making sure that your build is solar ready. Having the engineering to prove it will make insuring your shed so much easier. Have a look at Professional Choice Sheds®
